Contest Rounds

Round A

Every contest will start at Round A for 24 hours. You may submit only a few suggestions based on your tier during this time. Once the 24 hours have passed, we will ask the buyer to give feedback on the suggestions received. This will pause the contest for a 24-hour hold.

Once the buyer gives feedback and the 24-hour hold has passed, you can submit more suggestions that fit the buyer's feedback better.

Round B

Round B starts after the 24-hour hold and will last for 5 days. You can submit entries daily and be notified when the buyer gives feedback.

Tip on Winning a Naming Contest

To increase your chances of winning a contest, we recommend you read the below carefully and use your instinct when submitting names.

  1. Read the brief and understand the benefits and desired brand attributes of the product or service. Make sure to take note of any additional notes at the end of the brief.
  2. Research what competitors are calling themselves to know where not to go.
  3. Check whether the exact match .com domain is available, and if not, be prepared to offer powerful alternatives. If they are open to other extensions, use those, but note most businesses are looking for a unique name and an exact match domain name.
  4. You can add words to the domain name. For example, BRAND can have a domain name like GetBrand.com and BrandApp.com, or WeAreBrand.com if you feel it works for that specific brand name. However, don't take the easy route and suggest BrandLLC.com. You won't win any points, and your submission may get declined by the Brand New Name team.
  5. You can add a hyphen if the exact match domain is not available.

What to Include in Each Field

In the SUGGESTED NAME field, you can just spell the name and use capital letters where required. For example, "Coca Cola" or spell out acronyms like "Home Box Office" for HBO.

In the DOMAIN NAME field, you can switch the extension if the brief states they are open for other extensions. Note we always default to .com as that is the preferred extension.

In the NOTES field, you can quickly explain your idea. So if you're suggesting a  mashup name like "Pinterest," you may state "Mashup of Pin and interest."

Submitting Registered or Unregistered Names

  1. Note that you can either submit an unregistered domain name, meaning the domain is available for registration at a registrar similar to GoDaddy, or a premium name found within our premium domain name marketplace.
  2. You can check if a name is registered using a service like Name.com - Notice if searching for the name spotify.com, for example, comes back taken. Our system will also alert you if a name is taken and unavailable to purchase from our premium domains marketplace.
  3. You may submit 1 premium name for every 3 unregistered names.

Registering an Entry

You must wait until a contest has ended and a winner is announced before you register any entry that you previously submitted as unregistered. However, registering a winning entry is prohibited. If you register a winning entry by mistake, we will help facilitate the transfer of the domain name to the buyer, with no additional compensation beyond the award amount.

Policy Violations

Brand New Name reserves the right to determine if an entry or action violates the policies. During a violation investigation, the accounts may be temporarily suspended. Policy violations are determined by intent, severity, and frequency and can result in permanently suspending an account.
